Importance of Illustrations in Children's Book

It is a big challenge to stimulate kids towards books, but appearance of a book really plays a major role in arousing charm of reading among kids. Illustrative books plays an extensive role in alluring interest of reading books in kids.

The Comenius’s Orbis Pictus  was one of the renowned book among the first kids book with illustrations and having primer text on it. The famous Aesop Fables’s, first english edition in 1484 has the illustrations of woodcuts in it. Earlier the work of illustrations was not recognized but later it was acknowledged with the art and illustration of Thomas Bewick in his books. Gradually, enormous changes in the work of illustrations was found in  1960 where new technologies were introduced and creativity and innovations were used to improvise colors, images and graphics. Maurice Sendak’s ‘ Where the Wild Things Are’ was the famous book of 1960. After 1980 there was vast technical changes were found in the field of illustrations in the books. Now we also see illustrations in e books which really spellbound us.

Little kids are visual readers, they are delighted to read and study from illustrated books as colorful books attracts them, they find children's book illustrations more  descriptive. Reading will be monotonous for kids in the absence of  illustrations as they make reading more interesting and joyful. It is very essential to design revelatory illustrations  in the book as kids relate to them while reading the text, so one need to be very vigilant while working on the elements of the kids book.

We find that mostly stories books are loaded with lots of children's book illustrations, so each and every character need to be very sturdy as kids adore them very much. Illustrations are not only restricted to stories but they also focus on offering education by adding the fervor of fun in it through illustrations which keep kids occupied and engaged.

Illustrations are the best way in which the content can be explained, sometimes when little kids face complexities while reading,  the illustrations help them to get through, so illustrations should be such that complement the text, as text is the core content of the book. Illustrative books impart education in both trade and text books.

A quality book need both time and efforts. The motto of illustrative books are to make the text more clear and simple to read. It is an art work which need lots of endurance. Illustrator should be creative and innovative with the ideas of illustrations. He should be very specific with the graphics, theme and colors  he is using to design the content, so absolute care should be taken to make the book fascinating.

Illustrations both inside and outside of the book persuade the readers to read the books and they take the pleasure in going through the books which make the books more competitive in the market. Illustrations are very popular in print and visual media and serve a large purpose.

Children's book illustrations serve the basis of all the ages and required in many professions, but they perform significant part and assist kids to step in wonderful world of books through illustration and help them in gaining knowledge.
